Screen recorder with audio
Screen Recorder with Audio: Capture App Sound and Narration.
Use the Zight desktop recorder to capture supported system or application sound, your microphone, or both. Audio choices differ by platform and source, so select the intended inputs and play back a short test before recording the full explanation.

How do I record my screen with audio?
Open the Zight desktop recorder, choose the screen or application, then select the available system or application audio and microphone sources. Grant the requested operating-system permissions. Record a short tone and spoken marker, stop, and play the file back before the real take. Browser and mobile capture controls differ from the desktop apps.
What it does
The audio half, which is the half that goes wrong
Picture is the easy part. Everything below is about the track most recorders make you choose between.
Desktop app sound and narration
On supported desktop capture paths, select system or application audio and your microphone so the alert, demo, or playback and your explanation can land in one recording. Availability depends on the operating system, app, permissions, and protected-content rules.
Source selection you can verify
Choose the audio source exposed by the current desktop app and operating system. A selected microphone does not prove app sound is present, and a moving system meter does not prove narration is present. A short playback check separates source selection from volume, mute, routing, and permission problems.
AI output has plan and item scope
Transcripts, chapters, summaries, smart titles, and other AI actions depend on the current plan allowance and item eligibility. Create includes a limited monthly AI allowance and Collaborate adds unlimited AI and Smart Actions; check pricing for the current scope instead of assuming every recording receives every output.
Fix it after, not again
Trim the throat-clearing off the front, cut the middle where the build ran, and re-share the same link. A bad take does not mean recording the whole thing twice.
How to record with audio
Four steps, and one of them is a permission dialog
-
1
Install and open the recorder
Mac, Windows or the Chrome extension. Signing up is free.
-
2
Select the sources available on this platform
In the desktop app, choose the microphone and supported system or application audio. In a browser, follow the tab, window, or screen sharing controls it presents. Do not assume one platform’s choices exist on another.
-
3
Grant only the permissions the recording needs
Review screen, system-audio, and microphone permissions in the operating system and recorder. A denied permission can block a source, but silence can also come from the wrong input, mute, low volume, device routing, or protected content.
-
4
Run a sound check, then record
Record a short permitted tone and say a distinct phrase. Stop and play it back with headphones. When both sources are present at useful levels, record the full take and inspect the shared result before sending it.

FAQ
Questions people ask first
The Zight desktop apps support combined capture for compatible system or application audio and a microphone. The exact sources vary by operating system, application, permissions, and protected-content rules. Browser and mobile paths should be checked separately.
Choose the available system or application audio source in Zight, then grant the current Screen & System Audio Recording and microphone permissions macOS requests. Permission labels and built-in macOS options vary by version, so follow the current Mac instructions and verify the saved file with a short playback test.
Check the selected source, input and playback volume, mute state, Bluetooth or device routing, and the recorder’s screen, system-audio, and microphone permissions. Protected content can also block capture. Use a short permitted tone and spoken marker to learn which source is missing.
The recorder is built around capturing a screen, so audio-only is not what it is for. If you need to trim or convert an audio file you already have, the free browser tools will do that without an account.
AI transcripts and related outputs depend on the current plan allowance and item eligibility. Create includes a limited monthly AI allowance, while Collaborate adds unlimited AI and Smart Actions. Check the pricing page for the current scope and review older items separately.
Zight offers Mac and Windows desktop apps plus Chrome and iOS capture paths, but their available audio sources are not identical. Use the desktop instructions for combined app sound and narration, and verify browser or mobile audio before relying on it.
