Start a meeting recording in one click with Zight for Mac

Zight now prompts you to start a recording when Zight detects a meeting. This automatically starts the countdown, system audio activates, and your webcam is removed. This can be disabled under the Zight preferences on Mac.

Note: The notification may be hidden in your Notifications center if you are in focus mode. We’ll be fixing this in a future version.

Mac 8.4.1 Stability update

New Mac app version, 8.4.1

The team fixed a few issues related to video:

• fix when the camera dropdown was not selecting the right device in some cases
• fix an issue where recordings could fail if made right after first app install
• fix onboarding screen permission not always bringing your to the next step
• using the iPhone camera would be lagging
• and bring back the tooltips on the annotations panel for each option

Webhooks update

We updated our existing webhooks feature to enable many integrations with your tool stack: Support article

The main update is on the “added\_to\_collection” webhook, which is being triggered when a video is added in a collection.

We now added most of the item info (content url, AI name/description if you have our AI addon) to enable many workflows:

• content backup → send your videos to Google Drive etc
• content upload to other tools → send your videos to Youtube if you add them to a collection called "Youtube" for example
• In our beta “Request video” feature, you can ask your customers to send you videos and have them received in your CRM of choice (ex: Zendesk, Intercom etc).

Windows 6.8.0 - Bug fixes and improvements

This new version helps fix a few issues that you reported to our support team, thank you for reporting them!

• improve the cache logic so Zight doesn’t take as much space and memory anymore
• Fix an issue where the control bar would be rendered off screen when using multiple screens
• Fix an issue where a small floating window with close and minimize buttons would be shown permanently on-screen

File retention policy visible for users

With Zight’s enhanced File Retention Policy feature, users are now clearly informed when workspace policies affect their custom content expiration settings. This ensures a seamless experience by preventing users from setting dates that exceed retention limits, saving time and avoiding errors. Administrators can confidently manage retention rules while users enjoy transparency and clarity in managing their content.

AI Chapters

One of the most requested enhancements for our AI package is already within reach — we collect the data but haven’t yet surfaced it. This feature will add significant value to our AI offerings and make it much easier to navigate through lengthy videos.

This version brings one of our top feature request, Scrolling screenshots! It also brings a new view that better showcases all Zight features in one go, making them easier to discover.

Features

• Scrolling screenshots to let users capture long pages: Email threads, web pages, etc. Already available on Chrome, this feature is now on Mac and will be on Windows shortly.
• You will be greeted with an onboarding the first time they open the feature
• Sequoia compatibility. We tested the app with the new macOS version, which came out on September 2024! This brings to users a new system level popup that will be shown to users every month and needs to be accepted for Zight to function properly.
• Get notified when your microphone doesn’t produce any sound, hence saving you from doing a sound-less recording!

• When you drag and drop an image from the quick panel, it now closes the quick panel
• More consistency in the UI naming
• Better warning when a video conversion fails sending users to the help center

Version history is a unique Zight feature that allows you to track the history of editing that you applied to your content. If it’s a screenshot or any image you can see how you changed a picture and restore or duplicate each version, as many times as you want.

Mac 8.2 - Notch laptop improvements, speed updates, quality updates and more!

Features & improvements

• Laptops with notch Enhanced user experience with more options to stop a recording. In some cases, Zight might be hidden under the notch on some laptops, when users opened Zight they had no options but to cancel the recordings. No more! You can now access the recording controls when you open Zight, wether it’s via Cmd + Tab, or in your dock.
• 720p quality got a 30% quality boost, to make sure text is legible and videos look great when shared. Upgrade for more recording resolutions!
• Camera Bubble: The camera bubble now stays where you move it!! This was sometimes frustrating while recording, as the webcam would move to pre-defined corners, but some of you want to show your webcam in a specific place. It resets to bottom left between recordings.
• Preview a file in the file list: Added a button to the preview feature to the file list for easier access. Used to be a hidden feature under the “more” menu, where you had to hit spacebar, now it's a little icon that you can click on anytime.
• Preferences panel got a little facelift, splitting the settings for Recordings and Screenshots (used to be called "Appearance" and not have all the screenshot features) - See it in Zight
• Speed : thumbnails are now shown and draggable in the file list while uploading is happening
• Contrast Improvement: Added better contrast between the countdown and background before a recording starts.

Bug Fixes

• Annotation Panel: Fixed the annotation panel appearing during region selection recording (this was a pet peeve of a lot of power users)
• Invisible Icons: Fixed invisible Zoom In and Zoom Out icons in the Screenshot Editor.
• Color Picker: The color picker in screenshot and video annotations now displays the correct color.
• Recording Uploads: Fixed issues where recordings were not uploading during network outages.
• Crash Fixes: Addressed several crashes, including those related to saving annotations, recording processes, and specific error conditions.
• Editing Issues: Resolved problems where editing after selecting the extension on the editor title textbox wouldn't save the title.

Embeds refresh

Zight embeds got a new design. Changes are subtle but definitely noticeable. The update includes:

• better support for cases with and without Zight branding
• variants with and without item names displayed
• rounded corners, multi-line titles, and Zight logo placement
• refreshed play button on video content and player UI

The changes apply to embeds, not social media thumbnails. It’ll come later this quarter.

Meet Zight’s Newly Enhanced Chrome Extension!

We’re excited to introduce the latest enhancement to Zight’s Chrome extension (which you can download here ). The update started with a need to drive a consistent experience across our product ecosystem. Whether you are using the desktop app or Chrome extension, this update not only provides identical functionality but also maintains consistency in colors and feature naming.

With this update, capturing GIFs and recording quick videos is now an option in the primary actions, a feature previously only available on our desktop app. GIFs are similar to recording a video, but you can get your point across in a quick visual punch. They are perfect if you’re troubleshooting a bug with Engineering or showing your Dev team the latest web updates – just record and easily share a link with your team or customer.

Annotate

In addition, we have also added an Annotate option to the primary actions which brings consistency for both Chrome and desktop. When using the Annotate feature, you can create a screenshot and then the annotation screen will automatically open up where you can add text, shapes, arrows, blur, and more. Great for quickly communicating your ideas and showing what you mean clearly and concisely.

Dark Mode

Lastly, we have added dark mode to the Chrome extension. Whether you’re working late into the night or simply prefer a more subtle interface, dark mode can be easier on the eyes and cause less strain. For users with visual impairments or sensitivity to bright light, dark mode can also improve readability and overall usability, helping to create a more inclusive browsing experience.

Mac 8.1 - Warning when no microphone sound is detected

No more sound-less videos with our new warning added in ZIght for Mac 8.1!

We now detect if your microphone is muted (happens if you mute/unmute it often in between videos) or no sound was detected coming from your microphone.

It includes a few enhancements following your feedback on the release of 8.0 end of last year, including :

Windows 6.6.0 - 6x faster video upload

We are thrilled to announce the release of Zight for Windows 6.6.0. This update includes crucial bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features aimed at enhancing the overall user experience on Windows.

The main change in this release is an improvement to our speed, making video uploads up to 6x faster than our previous version.

We also fixed a few issues:

• Some video and audio sync issues, especially with 4k videos
• Resolved an issue where the application would error out after countdown when recording
• Resolved some intermittent crashes
