Zight Product Enhancements [April Edition]: Chrome 8.1, Refreshed Embeds & Annotation Text Updates

Meet Zight’s Newly Enhanced Chrome Extension

We’re excited to introduce the latest enhancement to Zight’s Chrome extension (which you can download here). The update started with a need to drive a consistent experience across our product ecosystem. Whether you are using the desktop app or Chrome extension, this update not only provides identical functionality but also maintains consistency in colors and feature naming.

GIF

With this update, capturing GIFs and recording quick videos is now an option in the primary actions, a feature previously only available on our desktop app. GIFs are similar to recording a video, but you can get your point across in a quick visual punch. They are perfect if you’re troubleshooting a bug with Engineering or showing your Dev team the latest web updates – just record and easily share a link with your team or customer.

Annotate

In addition, we have also added an Annotate option to the primary actions which brings consistency for both Chrome and desktop. When using the Annotate feature, you can create a screenshot and then the annotation screen will automatically open up where you can add text, shapes, arrows, blur, and more. Great for quickly communicating your ideas and showing what you mean clearly and concisely.

Dark Mode

Lastly, we have added dark mode to the Chrome extension. Whether you’re working late into the night or simply prefer a more subtle interface, dark mode can be easier on the eyes and cause less strain. For users with visual impairments or sensitivity to bright light, dark mode can also improve readability and overall usability, helping to create a more inclusive browsing experience.

Annotations just got (another) upgrade!

Zight annotations already give our users the ability to take a screenshot and communicate with clarity using a variety of annotations, and last month we introduced a few new features including drop shadow, text outline, adding annotations outside of the original image, and easier-to-select text.

But we heard your feedback and improved our annotation toolset even more when editing from the web with text. Now the options for text annotation include all of the below:

  • Fill, line, and font color: Choose from a wide range of colors to customize your text annotations and make them visually appealing.
  • Font type, style, and size: Select the perfect font that matches your preferred tone. Customize the text style, such as bold or italic, to emphasize important information, and adjust the font size to ensure readability.
  • Line height: Control the spacing between lines to optimize the legibility and overall appearance of your text annotations.
  • Text alignment: Align your text annotations to the left, right, or center to create more balanced and visually pleasing content.

You also have a few more options to edit the text on your screen: flip the text horizontally, delete, duplicate, auto height, and auto width.

By expanding your text customization options, you can now create annotations that are not only informative but also visually appealing, capturing the attention of your audience and ensuring your message is effectively communicated.

Refreshed Embeds

Introducing a fresh new embed design with Zight! Now when you embed a link, you get a refreshed look with rounded corners, an updated play button, multi-line content titles, and the option to display with or without Zight branding.

To add an embed:

  • Open your content on the Zight web app
  • Click on Share
  • Click on Embed
  • Choose if you want to show the file title and Zight branding
  • Copy the Embed code
  • Paste the Embed to your website

Additionally, did you know that embedding videos on your website also comes with its own benefits? From enhancing engagement to improving SEO, let’s explore why embedding videos can help improve your online presence.

Improved Engagement: By embedding videos directly onto your website, you can enhance engagement with your audience. Videos often capture attention more effectively than text or images, leading to increased time spent on the website and higher levels of interaction.

Content Accessibility: Videos embedded on a website can make content more accessible to a wider audience. Some users may prefer consuming information through video content, and embedding videos ensures that they can access the content directly on the website without needing to leave the site and visit external platforms.

Improved SEO: Good news, embedding videos can also have a positive impact on search engine optimization! Search engines often prioritize websites that include multimedia content like videos, leading to higher rankings in search results. In addition, videos can increase the amount of time a visitor spends on a webpage before navigating away or taking another action on the website, informing search engines that the content is valuable and relevant.

Increased Conversions: Videos have the power to influence purchasing decisions and drive conversions. You can embed product demonstration videos, customer testimonials, or explainer videos on your website to provide valuable information to potential customers and encourage them to take action.

Improvements to logout issues

As usual, we also packed this release with more stability and reliability improvements, including fixing an issue that would preemptively log you out. Our team has been committed to addressing and fixing these user-reported logout issues, ensuring a smoother and uninterrupted experience with Zight’s Chrome extension. With these enhancements, you will experience a smoother workflow, allowing you to focus on what matters most.
